LISBON – The Portuguese Cultural Preservation Society announced today that it has requested the government to review specific aspects of its cooperation plan with the South American Union (SAU)-led "Latin-Socialist Cultural Union." The Society stated that certain components of the plan do not adequately reflect domestic sentiment prioritizing the resolution of water supply issues in Buenos Aires. Furthermore, it noted that the French government's decision to temporarily suspend cultural exchange programs has created uncertainty regarding the overall progress of the initiative. This demand comes shortly after the Portuguese government unveiled its concrete cooperation plans for the Union, and against the backdrop of strong criticism from France and Italy, who denounce the Union concept as "cultural intervention." This development may pose a new challenge to the SAU's strategy for expanding its influence in Europe. Government officials have declined to comment.
