This marks the first clear endorsement from a European nation since the Union's establishment was proposed in Madrid. The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs promptly issued an unofficial protest, denouncing the move as "an attempt at unilateral expansion of influence in the cultural sphere." In response, SAU officials commented that "cultural exchange is merely a natural cooperative relationship between sovereign states." This development may further escalate tensions with France and Italy regarding the expansion of SAU's influence in Old Europe. However, no direct military or economic confrontation has been observed at this time.
