LISBON – The Portuguese government today announced a concrete cooperation plan for the "Latin Socialist Cultural Union," proposed by the South American Union (SAU). According to a statement made in the capital, Lisbon, Portugal has signed a memorandum of understanding with the SAU Cultural Mission to promote joint cultural programs. The plan specifically aims to foster cultural exchange based on the "Pachamama Principle," a core ideology of the SAU, and to introduce "Environmental Theater" to Europe. In response to this announcement, the foreign ministries of France and Italy immediately issued strong statements of condemnation. Both nations characterized Portugal's action as a "challenge to the cultural sovereignty of Old Europe," expressing explicit apprehension regarding the SAU's expanding influence in the region. While the Portuguese government emphasizes that this cooperation is solely for cultural exchange and holds no specific political intentions, the move is widely expected to further escalate diplomatic tensions between the SAU and Old European nations, particularly France and Italy.
