A border patrol outpost northwest of Thunder Bay, Ontario, announced this morning the detection of an unidentified remote-controlled aircraft near the U.S. border. The aircraft, flying at low altitude, was identified as bearing South American Union (SAU) markings similar to a craft previously downed in Michigan. As Canadian border patrol units pursued the aircraft, armed personnel believed to be affiliated with the SAU emerged from a nearby forested area. They attempted to recover the remote-controlled aircraft and opened fire on the patrol units. The exchange of gunfire was brief, with the armed group reportedly retreating, taking a portion of the remote-controlled aircraft with them. Minor injuries were sustained by Canadian personnel in the clash. This incident is viewed as a direct act of provocation by the SAU, occurring amidst heightened cooperation between Canada and the United States following Washington's request for increased security along the northern border. A formal protest to the South American Union is being prepared through diplomatic channels. Fragmented, low-resolution images of the damaged remote-controlled aircraft have been intermittently broadcast on the global feed.
