SVERDLOVSK, Nov 1 (GLOBAL-FEED) — A minor disturbance occurred earlier today at the Third Goods Distribution Station in Sverdlovsk, Soviet Union, concerning delays in the allocation of essential goods. The incident is believed to have been caused by an error in the allocation plan generated by the
OGAS (State Automation System).
According to eyewitnesses, hundreds of citizens gathered around the station after a specific food item (canned meat) failed to arrive by the scheduled 09:00 distribution time. Some individuals reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with the static inventory information displayed on the large distribution management panel.
Security forces from the OGAS regional administration and city police were deployed to the scene. They used megaphones to announce that an “OGAS calculation error” had occurred, stating that “recalculation is currently underway and normalization is expected within several hours,” temporarily dispersing the crowd. No injuries were reported.
The OGAS regional administration has indicated that the incident may be attributed to human error during the punch card input phase or a delay in the regional mainframe’s calculations. They have announced the initiation of a detailed investigation into the cause. Scattered system malfunctions, including display panel failures, have recently been reported at OGAS-related facilities across the Soviet Union, raising questions about a potential connection to this latest incident.
