MARSEILLE – The French Navy announced today that a small patrol vessel, 'Le Cyclone,' experienced a communication failure during routine exercises in the Mediterranean Sea. The incident reportedly caused the vessel to temporarily deviate from its course and approach an area where the South American Union (SAU) has declared intensified surveillance activities. According to a statement from the French Ministry of Defense, 'Le Cyclone' encountered a widespread malfunction of its aging onboard radio communication system during a patrol exercise in the eastern Mediterranean in the early hours of today. This led to a temporary loss of contact between the vessel and its command, resulting in the deviation from its assigned route. In response, the SAU Pacific Fleet Command reported that its patrol vessels in the Mediterranean detected the unexpected approach of the French naval vessel and immediately issued a warning via international communication channels. The SAU has expressed concern over the unstable military activities in Old Europe since last month's collision involving a French Navy vessel and an SAU patrol craft. Following this latest incident, the SAU stated its intention to further strengthen surveillance activities in the Mediterranean. The French government emphasized that the incident was an accidental occurrence, purely attributable to technical issues, and not an intentional infringement upon SAU sovereignty.
