BUENOS AIRES – The South American Union (SAU) Ministry of Foreign Affairs today announced its intention to host an international academic meeting in Buenos Aires, inviting scholars from the Guangdong Sector of the People's Republic of China to discuss their theories on 'subversive revolutionary expression,' originally put forth by the local cultural committee. This move is seen as a direct response to Beijing's earlier condemnation of the SAU's proposal to send observers to the Guangdong research meeting, which China denounced as 'internal interference.' An SAU Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated that 'academic freedom and cultural exchange are universal values that should not be subjected to control by any political system.' The spokesperson added that research into 'suspicious patterns' and 'dissonance,' as proposed by the Guangdong scholars, is 'crucial for understanding humanity's cultural diversity.' The invited scholars are expected to be provided a platform to present their findings to the international community. In response to the SAU's announcement, the People's Republic of China's Ministry of Public Information immediately issued a statement vehemently condemning it as 'a blatant act of internal interference and an unjust infringement upon national sovereignty.' The Ministry accused the SAU of attempting to fuel ideological discord within China, particularly while simultaneously escalating economic pressure on Beijing over the 'electromagnetic smuggling' disputes. It called upon the international community to sternly denounce the SAU's actions. This new development is expected to further exacerbate the already high tensions between China and the South American Union, which have seen military clashes off the Guangdong Sector, disruptions to SUR-denominated trade, and escalating ideological and cultural conflicts across multiple fronts.
