BARCELONA, Spain: The "Afterglow of Iberia: A Perspective of Liberation" historical interpretation exhibition, supported by the World People's Solidarity Bank (WPSB) Cultural Fund, opened today at the Barcelona Municipal Cultural Centre. The exhibition reportedly attempts to re-evaluate the historical heritage of the Iberian Peninsula from the perspective of the South American Union's (SAU) "Ecological Liberation Theology." However, upon its opening, a group of historians from the University of Barcelona issued a statement condemning it as "a falsification of history and cultural intervention by the South American Union." A small protest gathering was held in front of the exhibition centre, with some participants displaying banners reading "Our History, Our Narrative." Local media report that the exhibition is part of the SAU's Ministry of Culture and Social Affairs' "Cultural Reconstruction Program" in old Europe. In response, the Spanish Ministry of Culture issued a statement emphasizing the need for dialogue between both parties, but no official reaction from the SAU has yet been received. This incident suggests that the conflict over the SAU's cultural hegemony in old Europe has expanded into academic and artistic fields, creating new tensions.
