TOKYO – Global Feed – The Far East Independent Nations Union (FEINU) Coast Guard reported an accidental clash with a South American Union (SAU) patrol vessel in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) off Tokyo Bay in the early hours of today. According to the FEINU Coast Guard, the SAU patrol vessel was reportedly tracking suspicious radio signals believed to be used for illicit international sports broadcast relay. When a FEINU patrol ship issued a warning regarding the approach to its territorial waters, warning communications between the two vessels escalated. A few warning shots were exchanged, but no casualties have been reported. This incident follows last month's major fire at an entertainment facility in Tokyo Bay, which was determined to be caused by illegal sports broadcast relay. The SAU had subsequently demanded a joint investigation from FEINU. The FEINU government has issued a strong statement condemning the SAU patrol vessel's actions within its EEZ as a 'violation of sovereignty.' In contrast, the SAU Ministry of Foreign Affairs asserts that its activities are aimed at 'stabilizing international information infrastructure' and are in accordance with international law. In the Pacific region, the SAU has intensified its surveillance activities under the guise of information infrastructure protection since the cutting of a major communication cable off Tuvalu. This clash clearly indicates that the international tensions over information hegemony have now extended to the Far East.
